Muhyiddin Satisfies With BN’s Pengkalan Kubur By-election Campaign Work

Confident the Barisan Nasional (BN) will win the Pengkalan Kubor by-election on Sept 25, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also paid tribute to the performance of the Barisan Nasional (BN) machinery in the run-up to election.

He said this when he visited the BN staff and mingled with voters in Kampung Telaga Bata on his fifth visit to the state constituency Sunday.

Muhyiddin began his schedule by attending a session with fishermen, listening to their problems and later presenting cost of living allowances to 438 fishermen at the Maktab Rendah Sains Mara here.

He was accompanied by Kelantan Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The deputy prime minister then led a congregation of more than 50 to perform noon prayers at the Pengkalan Kubor Mosque here.

His visit came to an end after attending a Meet-the-Deputy-Prime-Minister session at the home of late local resident Mahmod Kamaruddin in Kampung Telaga Bata here.

Muhyiddin also gave a talk to voters at the district polling centre in Telaga Bata before returning to the federal capital.

Meanwhile, fisherman Amat Yusof said the federal government’s concern over the plight of fishermen like himself, was indeed commendable.

“A lot of assistance has been provided by the government, including living allowances and fuel subsidy for fishermen. I hope BN wins and retains Pengkalan Kubor,” he said.

The Pengkalan Kubor by-election will be a three-cornered fight involving BN’s Mat Razi Mat Ail, 48, Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim, 56, of PAS and independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary, 47.

It is held, following the death of BN’s three-term assemblyman Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar on Aug 20, due to cancer.

Noor Zahidi had retained the seat at the 13th General Election last year, with a majority of 1,736 votes, beating Saharun Ibrahim of PKR and Izat Bukhary.
