12 Athletes Nominated For Terengganu Sports Award

Twelve men and women athletes have been nominated to vie for the 2013/2014 Terengganu State Sports Award (AST) scheduled to take place at Wisma Darul Iman here tonight.

Terengganu State Sports Council (MSNT) director Abdul Rashid Jusoh said the award was the highest state government’s recognition for athletes in a bid to empower sports in the state.

“A total of 13 awards are up for grabs, including the most promising sportsman and sportswoman, best team, as well as paralympic special awards where 22 athletes were shortlisted from 45 candidates for this edition,” he told a media conference after an introduction on AST here today.

According to Abdul Rashid, among the state athletes nominated included cyclist Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medal weightlifter Mohd Hafifi Mansor, national Olympic archer Khairul Anuar Mohamad as well as Terengganu Hockey Team captain Mohd Shahrun Nabil Abdullah.

The state’s Sportswoman of the Year candidates include cyclist Fatehah Mustapa, Rabiatul Adawiyah Mohamad (women’s hockey), Nur Aliar Ghapar (archery) as well as Alia Sazana Azahari (shooting).

The winner of the state Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year will each receive RM7,000 cash while the Most Promising Sportsman and Sportswoman will get RM2,500 at the event in which Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman is scheduled to give away the prizes.
