Terengganu Allocates RM2.37 Billion For 2015 Budget

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman today tabled a RM2.37 million budget for the state next year, with an estimated revenue of RM2.4 billion, an increase of nine per cent or RM200 million from 2014.

He said the state government would continue with a surplus budget next year with only RM2.37 billion to be spent.

On revenue to be earned, 88.6 per cent would be from the federal government, especially through special fund and annual grants, he said when tabling the 2015 Budget during the State Assembly sitting here.

He is tabling the state budget for the first time since appointed Menteri Besar last May 12.

Ahmad Razif said the budget was drafted after taking account the people’s views through the setting up of the People’s Consultative Council (MPR) in all districts in the state.

He said views and suggestions were also received from the people online, like through Facebook and Whatsapp, and also through the short messaging service (sms).

He thanked the people for their views and suggestions in helping the state government to prepare a budget to suit their needs.

“This 2015 Budget is a budget from the people, to the people and for the people,” he added.

Ahmad Razif said the 2015 Budget focused on four strategies, namely strengthening the state government’s delivery system, strengthening human capital development, enhancing the people’s well-being and stimulating the state’s economy.

He said economy in Terengganu was estimated to grow by three per cent next year and attributed this to strong domestic economy, private investment and stable labour market.

The state government, he said, approved investments totalling RM7.1 billion between January 2013 and February this year, providing 3,400 employment opportunities to local residents.

Ahmad Razif said the state government’s expenditure for development next year, included RM699.8 million for the social sector which comprised for education, social development, housing, rural and urban development, local government, sport and health.

A total of RM335 million is allocated for the economic sector, comprising tourism, agriculture, small and medium industries and public infrastructure and facilities, he added.

He said RM201.3 million was allocated for development of information and communication technology (ICT), general administration and special projects.
