A total of 1,800 Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) graduates here received their bachelor’s degrees and diplomas at its 81st convocation today.

Terengganu UiTM Rector, Associate Professor Dr Abdol Samad Nawi said the convocation was held over three days, beginning Dec 7, and involved six sessions at the Dewan Aspirasi UiTM Terengganu, Dungun Campus.

He said four graduates were also conferred the Best Diploma Graduate, Best Bachelor Graduate, Best Leadership Graduate and State Special Best Graduate during the convocation.

“The awards were given in appreciation of their deeds and sacrifices in boosting UiTM’s image during their studies. It is hoped the awards will spur students to emulate them,” he told reporters here today.

Diploma in Food Service Management graduate, Nor Hidayah Md Shukri said she was thankful at being adjudged the state’s Special Best Graduate and viewed the recognition as “priceless”.

Despite her hectic involvement outside campus, Nor Hidayah, 21, who is fifth of nine siblings, said she had never neglected her studies and obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.7.

Megat Hazman Danish Mohd Ghazali, 21, bagged the Best Leadership Graduate Award.

The 21-year-old graduate who holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Electronics) said he had no regrets picking the course when he failed to obtain a place abroad to study medicine after the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia.

“I obtained a CGPA of 3.79 and now I am pursuing a degree at the Shah Alam UiTM. God willing, I want to continue my studies up to the doctorate level abroad,” said the eldest of five siblings.
