The police and the mass media will continue to cooperate in disciplining and educating the community in differing ways and methods although the objective is the same, that is to maintain peace.
Terengganu Chief Police Officer Datuk Jamshah Mustapa said the police carried out their work through enforcement while the media channelled information to the public through the reports published.
He said the media practitioners and police must have an understanding in the sharing of information to avoid any discrepancy of facts in the news disseminated to the public.
“We concede that the media plays a major role in channelling information through the news report issued, thus the close cooperation must continue to be strengthened.
“But the media must also understand the task of the police. There are cases where we can provide information while there are some which cannot be disclosed quickly, and there are also cases where we need time to determine their validity,” he said in his speech at the Terengganu Press Club (Kawat) and Police dinner attended by about 100 media practitioners, here last night.
